Eddie Kurtz in South Bend – 40 years later

John Walsh's note of October 6th, Monday after the Stanford game and Eddie Kurtz's first game attendance in 40 years:

We had a blast!  Construction traffic delay on the Indiana Toll Road was one factor that caused us to miss the Pep Rally on Friday night, but we had a great weekend at Dave & Stephanie's log house in the woods outside Buchanan, MI.  Dinner at Casey's in New Buffalo on Friday night started things off.

We tailgated with the Dalys and Kevin's excellent grilled steak sandwiches behind the bookstore, then joined the “Great '68” tailgate with Gibbs, Dunigan, (Chgo) Tom McKenna and son Liam, Guerin, Weyer & family, Brian Sullivan, Gene Cavanaugh, Jerry Cherubini, Bob Ptak.  ND couldn't get its running game going, but Jimmy Clausen nevertheless had a personal-best day with more than 300 yards passing and 3 TDs.  A tremendous, sunny day at ND Stadium.

Into the mix for the after-game victory dinner add Shaun Reynolds, who drove over for the night and stayed with Hirschboecks' with us.  Dave and Steph, Dia and I, Geoffrey and Christine, Shaun and Eddie gathered for dinner at Pete's Patio in Niles–a hearty Italian-style restaurant recommended by Dave.

A great weekend, and I think Eddie will echo that!

John
